I have used the FreeMind tool quite often. I use it take notes, summerize what I’ve learned from a book or a class, etc.

Recently I found another great free Mindmap tool, XMind. You can import your old FreeMind files into XMind. Here is screenshot of an XMind mind map converted from FreeMind.
